Posted 04/14/2017 10:00AM

Dear Upper School Families,

This week we enjoyed the Senior Arts Awards during our activities period.  What a talented group of students!
As we look ahead to the end of the school year, our community is filled with activities.  Following are details about some of the significant events.  This list is not exhaustive. If you have a question about an activity that is not listed here, please do not hesitate to ask. Carol G .Williams (carolgwilliams@greensboroday.org) in the Upper School office is always a good place to start.

Tuesday, June 6 - All School Closing – 8:30 a.m.- Dillard Gym

Wednesday, June 7 - Junior/Senior Prom - 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Empire Room, Elm Street

Thursday, June 8 - Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal for all seniors beginning at 2:45 p.m. Immediately following the rehearsal, the seniors report to the Sloan Theatre for Convocation beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 8 - Convocation 4:30 p.m. in the Sloan Theatre. Due to the limited seating capacity in the theatre, we ask that guests be limited to immediate family for this event. The Convocation program focuses specifically on seniors and their accomplishments at Greensboro Day School. Senior attire for this occasion is semi-formal. Males should wear coat and tie with dress pants.  Females should wear  dresses or dressy pants and blouses. All students should wear appropriate shoes – no flip flops or tennis shoes!  Attire should be respectful and reflect the solemnity of the event.

Friday, June 9 - Graduation -  9 a.m. in Dillard GymSeniors need to arrive at 7:30 a.m. There are no seating limitations for that event. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. that day and seating is first come, first served. Families who need accommodations for wheelchair access to the facility should contact Chrissy Olson at christineolson@greensboroday.org for arrangements by Friday, June 2. For Graduation exercises, this is a semi-formal coat and tie event.  Females are required to wear all white.  Males are required to wear a navy blue blazer with dress shirt and tie and white pants.  All students should wear appropriate dress shoes - no flip flops or tennis shoes. Since students will be seated on an elevated platform, it is particularly important to be mindful of appropriate hemlines.  The entire faculty will honor the class by attending all Commencement exercises wearing their academic regalia.

I hope all these dates will help you sort through the end of the year activities.  Have a nice long weekend!

Sincerely,

Robin Schenck, Ph.D.
