Below are answers to the questions most frequently asked by GDS parents.

What is the difference between greensboroday.org and gdsbengals.org?

greensboroday.org is our external webpage for people looking to learn more about Greensboro Day School.  It contains information about admissions, our curriculum and programs and other general information about the school.  If you click on “My GDS,” you will go to gdsbengals.org (aka the mashup page).  

What is the mashup page?

gdsbengals.org is a webpage that combines in one place all the information that you need as a member of the GDS community.  Once you’re child has enrolled at GDS, this is where you go for school information.  On our mashup page, we combine Current News, Resources, All School Calendar, Athletics Calendar, Facebook, Flickr (for pictures taken at GDS events), Twitter and YouTube.  We also provide links to other information that you might need or that might be of interest to you.

Is there a document that explains the different parts of the mashup page?

Do we have a school app?

At this time, we have a GDS app for those who own an iPhone or iPad.  It was written by the company who we use for our website.  We hope to have an app for the Android operating system sometime in the near future.  

Where would I find contact information for GDS faculty and staff?

All teacher contact information can be accessed through the School Directory.  The link to this directory is in the “Resources” box on the right hand side of the main page for gdsbengals.org. (image above)

 

Once you click on the School Directory link, you will be asked to login and then you will be given access to faculty, staff, student and parent contact information.  The default username is firstnamelastname and the password is bengals.

Where are the Health Room forms located?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Go to the “Links” menu and select “Health Room.”  There are links to the forms embedded in the text written about our health services.

Where is the All School Calendar located?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Go to the “Links” menu and select “All School Calendar” or scroll down the right hand side of the main webpage and you will see upcoming school events.  If you click on the calendar icon on the upper right of the upcoming events, you can go to the All School Calendar.

Where do I find information on after school activities?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Go to the “Links” menu and select “After-School Programs.”

How do I access the student directory?

All student contact information can be accessed through the School Directory.  The link to this directory is in the “Resources” box on the right hand side of the main page for gdsbengals.org. (image above)

 

Once you click on the School Directory link, you will be asked to login and then you will be given access to faculty, staff, student and parent contact information.

Can I purchase GDS merchandise on-line?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Click on the “BOOKSTORE” link at the top of the page and you will get a list of categories for the items that you can purchase.  Once you have chosen you items you can go to your cart and checkout just like other online shopping sites.

Where can I find information on FLIK?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Go to the “Links” menu and select “Bengal Cafe.”

How can I view the monthly lunch menu?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Go to the “Links” menu and select “Bengal Cafe.”  Links to the menus are on the right hand side of this page.

Where can I find information on bus transportation?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Go to the “Links” menu and select “Bus Transportation.”

Where can I view upcoming events?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Scroll down the right hand side of the webpage and you will see upcoming school events.  If you scroll further down, you will see upcoming sports events.

Is the schedule of athletic games posted anywhere?

Go to gdsbengals.org.  Scroll down the right hand side of the main webpage and you will see the upcoming athletics events.  If you click on the calendar icon on the upper right of the upcoming events, you can go to the entire Athletics Calendar.

Who do I call with questions about the website?

For website questions, you should contact the Office of Advancement: Director of Communication Stacy Calfo (x214) or Advancement Services Coordinator Leigh Munsey (x233).

What websites or pages do I need a password to access?

  • All parents have a password-protected website account to access the school directory. 
  • Lower School parents (Bitty Bengals – 5th Grade) have passwords to access their Class Pages.
  • 5th – 8th grade parents have password-protected Haiku accounts to access student homework and grades. 
  • Upper School parents have password-protected Netclassroom accounts to access student grades.

Why do I need to have different passwords?

When accounts for the website, Haiku, and Netclassroom are created, a password is assigned to the account.  In all of these applications, you can change your password to whatever you would like. If you choose to make all your account passwords the same, please be sure to choose a password that would not be easy for others to figure out.

What is the default username and password to access the Parent Directory?

The default username is firstnamelastname and the password is bengals.

Can I change the default username and password for the gdsbengals website?

You cannot change the username, but you can change the default password to your own password.  You can login through gdsbengals.org to the School Directory using the link on the “Resources” page.  Once you have logged in, go to “MY HOMEPAGE.” On the right hand side, click on “Update Your Password” and change the password from bengals to something that you want to use.

Why do I have to log-in to view the classroom pages?

We password protect Lower School pages for our youngest Bengals as an extra security precaution.

What is Paw Prints?

Paw Prints is the weekly e-newsletter published by the school that features important information about upcoming activities and events, and a weekly letter from your child’s division director. It is emailed to parents and other adults members in the school community each Friday. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check Paw Prints each week. School Leaders work together to make sure the most important information families need is sent to them weekly.

Why do I get so many emails from GDS with the same information in them?

If you are getting multiple emails with the same information, then you may be subscribed to website alerts that provide the same information as our Paw Prints or other school emails.  To unsubscribe from these emails, go to gdsbengals.org. Click on the Alerts link in the Resources box located on the right of the screen. Login in to your account, click on “My Subscriptions” and delete the news alerts that you no longer wish to receive.

What are alerts and how can I get them or turn them off?

Alerts are notifications from the school regarding news from divisions and emergency notifications. 

To set your alerts, go to gdsbengals.org. Click on the Alerts link in the Resources box located on the right of the screen. You will see on screen directions that walk you through how to set you alerts.  There is a link at the top of the page to print out a copy of the directions. 

What is Haiku?

Haiku is a Learning Management System (LMS).  LMS are applications that allow for delivery, assessment and reporting of educational material.  At GDS, Haiku is used by the Middle and Upper School teachers for delivery of course content and assignments.  In 5-8, Haiku is also used for reporting of student grades.  In Lower School, Haiku is used for the creation of Class Pages.  Middle and Upper school students have their own Haiku accounts that provide them with a stream-lined way to access all their course information, assignments and grades. 

What is Netclassroom?

Netclassroom is a web-based application where our Upper School parents and students login to see grades, schedules and report cards.

How do I access my child's GDS email account?

In our email system, we do not have a way for parents to login to student email accounts.  However, we encourage all students to share their email information (userid and password) with their parents.

Where do I find the calendar that shows what is going on in my child's grade?

All teachers have class/course webpages and these webpages have calendars on them.    The links to these pages are in the “Resources” box on the right hand side of the main page for gdsbengals.org. (image above)

 

For Lower School students, you click on “LS Classroom Pages.”  If you are not logged into the website, then you will be asked to login.  This link will take you to a page that lists all the Classroom Pages by grade and/or specialist subject matter.  The class pages have calendars associated with them where teachers are posting homework.

For Middle School students, you use your Haiku account to access homework.  You can login to Haiku from bengals.haikulearning.com or by clicking “Haiku; MS/US Homework Pages” in the “Resources” section of gdsbengals.org.  Click on the Haiku logo to get to the login page. There is a calendar in the center of the main page that contains your child’s homework.  To access class information, go to the left side of the main page and click on the name of the class that you are interested in.

For Upper School students, you click on “Haiku; MS/US Homework Pages” in the “Resources” section of gdsbengals.org.  This link will take you to a webpage that lists all the Upper School class pages by subject matter.  The class pages have calendars associated with them where teachers are posting homework.  You can use these calendars to see your child’s homework.

How do I access the touch typing links?

Touch typing links are accessed through Mrs. Caudle’s Lower School page.  To get to this page go to the “Resources” box on the right hand side of gdsbengals.org. (image above)

 

Click on “LS Classroom Pages.”  If you are not logged into the website, then you will be asked to login.  This link will take you to a page that lists all the Classroom Pages.  Click on Mrs. Caudle’s name under the list of specialists and then click on the “Touch Typing Links” tab on the left-hand side of the page.

 

Where can I find a list of age appropriate weblinks?

At this time, the best resource for parenting in the digital age is www.commensensemedia.org.  This website provides you with reviews of websites, television shows, video games and more.

Where are the Specialists' web pages located?

For Middle School students, you use your Haiku account to access the classes that your child is taking.  Specialist classes are listed on the Haiku portal with core classes.  You can login to Haiku from bengals.haikulearning.com or by clicking “Haiku; MS/US Homework Pages” in the “Resources” section of gdsbengals.org.  Click on the Haiku logo to get to the login page.

How do I check my child’s grades?

If you are a 5th Grade or Middle School parent, then you use your parent Haiku account to check both your child’s grades. 

If you are an Upper School parent, then you use your parent Netclassroom account to check your child’s grades.

How do I access my child's homework pages and assignments?

All homework pages and assignments can be accessed through the class webpages.  The links to these pages are in the “Resources” box on the right hand side of the main page for gdsbengals.org. (Image above)

How do I contact BCC directly - especially after school hours?

Is it possible to get a list of ingredients in the cafeteria food?

Our food service manager is always available to discuss the ingredients in the cafeteria food.  If the school has been made aware of student food allergies, then the cafeteria is notified and the allergy is noted in the student’s cafeteria account and food selection is monitored.  If meal choices contain allergens such as peanuts or dairy, these ingredients are noted on the meal sign.
