Film and TV Location Manager
After graduating from Greensboro Day School, Marcy attended the University of Georgia, where she studied journalism with the intention of ultimately pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. During her junior year, she interned at ABC News and HBO in New York City. It was there that she discovered her true passion: filmmaking.
After graduating from UGA, Marcy moved to New York City, where she immediately began working on film sets.
She quickly found her place in the Locations Department—the part of a film crew responsible for scouting and securing locations, handling permits and logistics, and providing on-set site management throughout production. Early in her career, Marcy was hired to scout and manage locations across a wide range of film formats, from music videos for Bon Jovi and Jay-Z to feature films such as Transamerica and Half Nelson, both of which went on to receive Academy Award nominations for Best Actor.
In 2015, Marcy joined the newly developed online education platform MasterClass as their resident location manager. The role took her all over the country, producing classes with renowned experts such as Martin Scorsese, Stephen Curry, and Hans Zimmer. It was during a shoot in Atlanta that Marcy realized she was ready to return to the South—especially to be closer to her family and her roots in Greensboro.
Just before the pandemic, Marcy relocated to Atlanta, where she now co-owns and operates a location management company, loc:ATL Inc., with her two business partners.
She is currently in her 10th year serving on the GDS Alumni Board, a role she took on as a way to stay involved with—and give back to—the institution that shaped her from kindergarten through high school. Marcy is deeply proud to be a GDS K–12 lifer and credits those formative years with preparing her for success in both college and her career. The relationships she developed at GDS, she says, remain among the closest and most meaningful in her life today.
