2026 Athletic Department Awards

The Athletic Department presented the awards listed below during the 2025–26 school year. Congratulations to these award recipients!

The Carlton Harris Award is named in honor of Carlton M. Harris, Jr., who was a member of Greensboro Day School’s Class of 1976 and who played tennis at Notre Dame, where the same award is given in his honor. This year’s recipients are Henry Johnson and Eloise White.

The Molly Brenner Award is given annually to a student basketball manager who exceeds the coach’s expectations and shows extraordinary dedication to the school’s basketball program. The award is named in honor of Molly Brenner ’05, whose enthusiasm and selfless dedication to the GDS basketball program led to her success as the varsity basketball manager at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This year’s recipient is Izzy Drexel.

The Davis Richmond Award is given to a member of the varsity girls basketball team who strives to always do her best in everything she does while participating in athletic events. This player exemplifies hard work and dedication to her sport and always demonstrates a positive attitude toward her team and coaches. This year’s recipient is Cadance Robinson.

The Jon Woods Award is named for a member of Greensboro Day School’s Class of 1978. During his time as a student, Jon found so many ways to support the Athletic Department that he could easily have been given the title of Assistant Athletic Director. In honor of that level of commitment and energy, each year a deserving student is chosen to receive recognition in honor of Jon Woods. The award recognizes a student who has supported our athletic program in many different ways and who brings energy and excitement in our wins and support during our losses. This year’s recipient is Zachary Prescott.

The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to students who earn a varsity letter in at least two sports during the last school year; show high academic effort; always represent GDS in a positive manner; demonstrate leadership, honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship; and reach a high level of athletic excellence. This year’s recipients are Ellie Johnson and Aydin Wynn.
