AI Safety & Data Privacy

The Technology Responsible Use Policy (provided in the GDS Family Handbook) applies to all uses of and interactions with AI. The Responsible Use Policy sets forth guidelines and expectations for the responsible use of technology to provide a safe, appropriate, and effective learning environment for all community members at Greensboro Day School.

Age Requirements

AI tools used by students must meet specific age requirements and comply with privacy standards. GDS follows the age limits as stated in the terms and service of the tool.

Approved Tools

Only AI services that have been reviewed and vetted for appropriate safeguards are approved for school use. These approved tools may allow the use of student names if necessary: Students must log in with their greensboroday.org accounts. Data Minimization

Only share the minimum amount of data necessary to complete a task, ensuring it is relevant and not excessive. Some platforms use your data to train their systems and/or use data for financial gain.

Propriety Awareness

Students and teachers are cautioned to be aware of the digital rights and policies of AI tools, as some platforms claim ownership of user-generated content for financial gain.  

Safeguarding PII

As stated in our RUP,  users are prohibited from sharing Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
