Approved AI Tools

The following tools have been properly vetted and approved for use at Greensboro Day School. Please note that while some tools are AI tools, others are applications with AI-integrated features.

Gemini

A generative AI assistant used for brainstorming, explaining complex concepts, and drafting content.

Approved Grade Levels: 9–12 when used within a student’s school  Google account.

NotebookLM

An AI-powered research assistant that analyzes uploaded documents (PDFs, notes) to create summaries and study guides.

Approved Grade Levels: 9–12 when used within a student’s school  Google account.

Google Workspace

A cloud-based productivity suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets) for collaborative writing, data organization, and presentations.

Approved Grade Levels: 4–12 when used within a student’s school Google account.

Adobe Creative Suite

Professional-grade software (Photoshop, Premiere) for high-end graphic design, video editing, and digital art.

Approved Grade Levels: 5–12 when using the school license and signing on with a GDS Google account.

Canva

A user-friendly design platform for creating posters, presentations, and social media graphics using templates.

Approved Grade Levels: 4–12 via Canva for Education by logging into the Greensboro Day School account.

MagicSchool (free version)

An AI platform specifically for educators to generate lesson plans, rubrics, and differentiation.

Approved Grade Levels: 5–12. The student-facing side (MagicStudent) is initiated by a teacher.

JSTOR

A digital library of academic journals, books, and primary sources used for scholarly research and fact-checking.

Approved Grade Levels: 7–12 using the school’s portal.

Turnitin

An academic integrity platform that checks student submissions against a massive database of internet resources and papers. It is used to detect plagiarism and AI-generated content.

Approved Grade Levels: 9–12

Seesaw

A digital portfolio and communication app where students document their learning through photos, videos, and drawings. It connects teachers and parents to a student’s daily progress.

Approved Grade Levels: BT–K (Teachers only), Grades 1–4

IXL

A personalized learning platform that uses adaptive practice sets to help students master specific standards in Math.

Approved Grade Levels: 1–4

Snorkl

AI-powered feedback on student-recorded explanations (whiteboard + voice). 

Approved Grade Levels: 5–12

Perplexity

An AI-powered "answer engine" that combines the conversational capabilities of a chatbot with the real-time information retrieval of a search engine.

Approved Grade Levels: 8–12

Vetting Process for AI Tools at GDS

The School will:

  1. Review the Terms of Service for age requirements, data privacy, and security
  2. Review the tool’s alignment with the school’s mission and policies
  3. Review the accuracy and reliability of the tool’s output
  4. Review the stability and reliability of the vendor
