Preschool

What happens during the preschool years matters for a lifetime. Children’s experience during these years sets the tone for how they feel about formal schooling, so our program emphasizes establishing trust, building strong relationships, and creating a warm and caring environment where children feel both physically and emotionally safe.

Please schedule a time to come and visit us—we look forward to showing you all that GDS Preschool has to offer!

Research from the NC Early Childhood Foundation shows that investing in early childhood education results in higher reading and math scores, higher salaries, better mental and physical health, and greater self-sufficiency.

At Greensboro Day School, children experience school as a place that is both physically and emotionally safe.

Our early childhood experts provide children with an intentional social-emotional curriculum, differentiated instruction that meets the needs of a range of learners, and a nurturing environment where children can thrive.

Specialist Teachers

In addition to our integrated literacy, numeracy, social studies, art, and science lessons taught daily by homeroom teachers, our two- and three-year-old students participate in specialized music and movement classes each day with a preschool specialist teacher.

The Junior Kindergarten program offers an increased number of classes taught by specialist teachers for science, library, music, art, physical education, and Spanish. Junior Kindergarten homeroom teachers lead daily integrated lessons in literacy, numeracy, character and citizenship, and social studies.
