Step 1 - Application

After submitting the application, you will receive further information about the following steps.

Step 2 - Parent Questionnaire

No one knows your child like you do! To help us better serve your child and family, parents are asked to complete a Parent Questionnaire.

Step 3 - Admission Testing

All Middle School applicants are required to take a grade-normed admission test. Testing is scheduled by appointment only and will be coordinated by the Admission Office.

Step 4 - Teacher Recommendations

Rising 5th and 6th grade applicants will be asked for one Teacher Information Form from their homeroom teacher.

Grades 5-6 Teacher Information Form

If your child is applying to 7th or 8th grade, your child's math and english teachers will be asked to submit forms after the first marking period.

It is the family's responsibility to give these forms to their child's current teacher/school.

Step 5 - Report Cards

Parents will need to request a copy of the applicant's current grades and a copy of grades from the two previous years (if applicable). After December 1, you will complete and sign a Transcript Release form and deliver it to your child's current school.

Step 6 - School Visits

Each applicant is required to visit our school for a full day. Visits allow applicants to experience a typical day of school at GDS. Students will visit their current grade, and complete a short writing, math, and reading assessment. Applicants will also have the opportunity to meet with one of our Middle School Administrators. Once the application has been submitted, we will contact you to schedule the visit.

Notification Dates

Applications for Middle and Upper School are accepted throughout the year if space is available. Initial decisions for completed applications are made on the first of February, and continue throughout the spring and summer on a rolling basis. Once all of an application is complete, you can expect a decision within 2 weeks. Admission decisions are made separately from decisions about need-based financial assistance.

We want this process to be as easy as possible for you and your family. We realize that different families have different needs, and we have designed our admissions process to reflect that knowledge. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make. The faculty and staff at Greensboro Day School look forward to helping you in any way we can.
Greensboro Day School develops the intellectual, ethical, and interpersonal foundations students need to become constructive contributors to the world.
