The Value of a GDS Education

Jabar Akintayo
  • Class of 2023

Going to Greensboro Day School was the best decision my family and I have ever made. During my six years at the Day School, they prepared me exceptionally well for college and beyond.

Furthermore, GDS has helped me create lifelong relationships through playing sports, doing group projects, volunteering, and many more activities that I will never forget. GDS faculty and staff helped me so much throughout my journey. They were always there to help and were determined to do so, and I am so thankful for them.

GDS has truly impacted the direction of my life.

I came to GDS at the beginning of my junior year. Since then I've felt nothing but immense gratitude for the relationships I've had with both my peers and teachers. I've been in four different schools, and this surpasses all of them by far. My only regret is I didn't come sooner.

I chose Greensboro Day School for my girls because GDS teaches them to be solid people as well as solid scholars.

It prepares them not only for college, but also for life outside of college. They are nurtured, challenged, supported, and encouraged daily to be better than the day before. What more could I ask for?

GDS has been my home for the past 13 years of my life and will always be a heartwarming place to return to.

Knowing I have the most supportive teachers behind my back if I ever need help from afar, is a wonderful feeling to have as I move on to this next chapter in my life. And as I do that, I know I’m prepared. I had loving and caring friends, tutors, and teachers who were willing to sit and help me through any problem, whether it was educational or personal

I felt incredibly well-prepared to enter the college classroom after attending Greensboro Day School.

At GDS, I learned good note-taking, reading comprehension, and research skills that prepared me for college-level work. I also learned how to be a responsible, motivated, and self-reliant student. I learned how to work collaboratively with my peers and to respect and value the ideas and perspectives that they have to offer. The combination of academic and interpersonal skills that GDS taught me has given me a definite advantage in the collegiate setting.
