Asheboro Automall and Brushy Mountain Powersports

For this Corporate Friends Spotlight, we are featuring Chris Lackey of Asheboro Automall and Brushy Mountain Powersports. His father, Dan Lackey, founded Asheboro Nissan in 1988 after a successful career with Ford and Nissan, later adding Asheboro Honda in 1996. Today, the family’s dealerships across North Carolina are known for their friendly, family-style service and their slogan: “Just South of High Prices!”

In addition to the Lackey family’s incredible support of the Be BOLD Campaign and our Corporate Friends Program, Chris generously gifted the School a Kawasaki NAV for campus security use. This gift comes at the perfect time, as GDS recently announced plans to hire a fourth security officer. The Kawasaki NAV arrived this week at no cost to the School, and Chris personally delivered the keys to Calvin Davenport and Dr. Tracie Catlett (above). Thank you to the Lackey family and Brushy Mountain Powersports for their generosity and for this significant contribution to campus safety!

What would you like the GDS community to know about your company and the work you do?
Asheboro Automall includes Asheboro Honda, Asheboro Nissan, Asheboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, and Brushy Mountain Powersports in Wilkesboro. Even after 38 years, we love when customers realize that just 30 minutes from Greensboro, they can get the same vehicles and service at lower prices. We’ve sold cars to many GDS faculty, parents, and even students, which means a lot to our family.

We’ve only had the powersports dealership for a year and a half, but we’ve already received top sales awards from Honda and Kawasaki. In January, we’ll begin a major renovation at our Wilkesboro facility on Highway 421, but stop by and say hello if you’re heading to the mountains!

What inspired you to continue your sponsorship with GDS this year?
We’re now in our sixth year supporting the Impact Fund as 1970 Society Members and Corporate Friends. It’s been amazing to see GDS grow, and serving on the Advancement Committee showed me how the community came together to exceed the goals of the Be BOLD Campaign. That generosity inspired us to give more and continue helping make GDS the premier independent school in the Carolinas.

How does supporting GDS align with your company’s values or mission?
Supporting GDS aligns with our mission to give back to those improving our communities. For 20 years, we’ve donated a car annually to United Way, and we sponsor the Santa Sleigh Project, which delivers food, clothing, and toys to families in need each holiday season.

What's your favorite part about being involved with the GDS community?
Building relationships with GDS’s dedicated educators and administrators has been the highlight of our involvement. I’ve learned so much from them about how to teach and care for our children. If our support helps them in any way, it’s worth every penny.
