For this Corporate Friends Spotlight, we spoke with Bettie Rhodes of Reidsville’s Office City, an entirely woman-owned, family-operated business serving schools and organizations across North Carolina for 45 years. Bettie, who spent two decades as an educator, now channels her passion for learning environments into providing high-quality furniture and equipment for spaces where students and teachers thrive.

What would you like the GDS community to know about your company and the work you do?
Reidsville Office City began around the Rhodes family kitchen table, a dream fueled by Bettie’s passion for education and her husband Chuck’s experience in office supply. With an early investment from Bettie’s grandfather, they built a company dedicated to outfitting work and learning spaces with care and professionalism. Today, their largest clients are educational institutions, including Guilford County Schools, Rockingham County Schools, multiple colleges and universities, and independent schools like Canterbury. From classrooms and libraries to science labs, offices, cafeterias, and even entire buildings, Reidsville Office City takes pride in transforming environments that support learning and growth.

What inspired you to continue your sponsorship with GDS this year?
Bettie shared that as a former teacher and now a proud GDS grandparent, supporting the excellence she sees at Greensboro Day School is incredibly meaningful. Her “teacher’s eye” notices all of the details: the curriculum, core values, communication, and commitment to students. She wants to help ensure that the school continues moving forward for future generations, including her grandchildren Bill (’27), Miriam (’29), and Trenton (’29).

How does supporting GDS align with your company’s values or mission?
Education is at the heart of everything Reidsville Office City does. The company is certified as a Woman/Minority Owned Business and is listed on North Carolina State Contract to better serve schools statewide. Contributing to GDS is a natural extension of their mission: supporting educational communities so teachers can teach, students can learn, and schools can flourish.

What’s your favorite part about being involved with the GDS community?
Bettie expressed deep gratitude for GDS’s high standards, from academics and student support to extracurricular opportunities like basketball and golf. She loves seeing students confidently pursue their passions in a nurturing environment, surrounded by faculty and staff who truly care. Being a Corporate Friend allows her family and business to help sustain that excellence.

How have you recently been contributing to the GDS community?
Reidsville Office City proudly supports GDS through the Corporate Friends Program as well as personal philanthropic giving. Bettie and her family look forward to continuing their partnership with GDS for years to come, with the hope that each contribution helps shape the best possible experience for every student who walks through the doors.
