The class of 2026 enjoyed four packed days experiencing Washington, D.C., this week. Students explored the museums, memorials, monuments, history, and culture of our nation’s capital. Thanks to Jeremy Shearer, Kristen Tuma, the eighth grade team, and our fearless chaperones for bringing this trip back after a two-year hiatus.

On April 22, we were thrilled to welcome some special visitors to our campus for Grandparents & Special Friends Day. This community event provides an opportunity for grandparents and special friends to come to campus, visit classrooms, and enjoy lunch with their grandchild. We have not been able to host this event for the last two years because of COVID, so this in-person event was extra special! Thanks to our lower school teachers for giving our guests such a warm welcome, and to the GDS Advancement Office for all their hard work planning and organizing this event.

On April 20, the Student Diversity Leadership Council hosted an International Food Night as a way of highlighting the diverse cultures in our GDS community and beyond. The event was held outside on the Keeley Commons on a beautiful spring afternoon, and we were thrilled to see so many community members turn out in support! Food was provided by a dozen local restaurants, including Pho Hien Vuong, Jerusalem Market, Dame’s Chicken & Waffles, and El Mercadito, just to name a few. Thanks to the Student Diversity Leadership Council and Director of Diversity & Belonging Dr. Ayesha Swinton for hosting this great event!

Several thousand used water bottles collected from the GDS community are on their way to becoming part of the upcoming H20 exhibit at the GreenHill Center for North Carolina Art. Volunteers from Greensboro Day School helped prep the water bottles on Saturday, February 12, so that they can be repurposed into a piece by Bryant Holsenbeck, an environmental artist from Durham. We’d like to thank all those who contributed water bottles in support of this project—we are looking forward to seeing the completed piece! As part of our school’s commitment to public purpose, we will continue to work on initiatives related to water safety issues around the world.
