GDS Students Receive National Merit Scholarship Program Recognition

Greensboro Day School is proud to announce the students who were honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a 2020 National Merit Semifinalist and Commended Student.
Congratulations to Nick Saunders ’20 for being named a National Merit Semifinalist. He is one of 16,000 semifinalists to earn this honor from a pool of 1.5 million students.
Additionally, Henry Peng ’20, Cason Pierce ’20, and Will Presson ’20 have earned the recognition of being named a 2020 Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced that approximately 16,000 semifinalists from across the country were selected from a pool of 1.5 million students in more than 22,000 high schools. The semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors, according to NMSC.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students across the country are recognized for their academic promise. While they will not move into the 2020 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, the Commended Students placed in the top 50,0000 scorers.
National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced nationwide in April.
