Following a national search, Greensboro Day School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Keeon Gregory as the next Director of College Counseling beginning June 1, 2020. Mr. Gregory is eager to transition to Greensboro to start his work with the students and families of the Class of 2021.
Mr. Gregory is married to Traci Gregory, a registered nurse, and they have two adult children, son Kendall Gregory and daughter Kaci Gregory. Mr. and Mrs. Gregory will relocate to Greensboro later this spring.
An expert in college counseling, Mr. Gregory comes to Greensboro Day School from Lake Ridge Academy where he has served as the Director of College Counseling for 17 years. Located on a 93-acre campus in North Ridgeville, a suburb 25 miles west of Cleveland, Lake Ridge Academy was founded in 1963 as the only independent college preparatory school on Cleveland’s west side. Lake Ridge Academy serves more than 420 students with an upper school (grades 9-12) enrollment of approximately 180 students.
During his tenure at Lake Ridge Academy, he provided exceptional and personalized service to more than 700 Lake Ridge graduates. He most recently stepped in as Interim Director of the Upper School to lead the school during an administrative transition. Mr. Gregory's ability to make personal connections with students, parents, colleagues, and college admission officers has been key to his success as Director of College Counseling. One of his current students stated, “As Interim Director especially, you've shown so much strength and optimism, and you lifted spirits when we all needed it. You've always been a thoughtful and warm presence in the Upper School.”
Mr. Gregory's career spans more than 30 years in education with over ten years in college admissions at institutions including the University of Rochester, Ithaca College, and Wittenberg University.
He is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's in college student personnel administration from Ball State University. During his collegiate career at Ohio State, he was a standout track star and team captain, winning several individual Big Ten championships.
Mr. Gregory's love for running continued after college. He became a track and field coach, leading his teams to conference, state, All-American, and national championships.
During his interviews with Greensboro Day School parents, students, members of the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, he was described as approachable and genuine, able to connect with students, a strong student advocate, and as a perfect fit at GDS. His former supervisor of 11 years commended him for his ability to successfully personalize the college search process for every student, going the extra mile for families with every step of the college admission process.
The national candidate pool was competitive and we are grateful for the Search Committee members for their time: Kristen Tuma (Assistant Director of the Upper School), Mary Goins (Upper School History teacher), Cam Leake (Class of 2021), Leigh Ann Pool ( Parent), and Ed Billingslea (Upper School Director).
