Boys basketball picks up big win over national powerhouse Oak Hill

In its second game of the season, the GDS varsity boys basketball team notched up one of its biggest wins in program history with a 55-54 victory over the national powerhouse Oak Hill on Saturday.

The game was a nail-biter that came down to the final minutes. The Bengals started the fourth quarter trailing 40-36, then outscored the Warriors to open up a 50-43 lead. Oak Hill rallied late in the quarter, but GDS senior Nik Graves hit five free throws in the final minutes to clinch the win.

The game, which was part of a two-day event at Carmel Christian, was a highly anticipated coaching matchup between the Bengals’ Freddy Johnson and the Warriors’ Steve Smith. Both head coaches are among the top-10 winningest boys basketball coaches of all time.

Congrats to Coach Johnson and the team on a big win!
