Alumni Service Award Recipient
Holly Barnes Hofbauer '92 receives the 2017 Alumni Service Award
The Greensboro Day School Alumni Association established the Alumni Service Award in 2002. This award is presented to an alumnus/a during Alumni Weekend who exhibits dedication and achievement in service to Greensboro Day School through exemplary leadership in voluntary service to the school.
Holly Barnes Hofbauer ’92 has given much her time to Greensboro Day School. She has been an employee of the school for since 2006 in various roles. She is a constant advocate for the school. She is the Annual Fund rep for both her class and for the Lower School and is a parent Volunteer. She has been the Lower School coordinator for the Greensboro Urban Ministries canned Food Drive and the Lower School social committee coordinator. She has co-chaired the Bengal Dash for 5 years and has been the Co-Director of the school’s Summer Program for 10 years before taking over as the sole Director in 2016. When teachers have had unexpected extended absences, she has filled in and helped with the long term substitute. She has served on the Alumni Board since 2014 and helped plan her class reunion this year!
4th Grade Teacher, Lorie Jones stated the following about Holly, “She has been an asset to the fourth grade team this year. She stepped right in and went above and beyond her classroom duties when we had a classroom teacher have to take an unexpected extended absence due to illness. Holly then helped with the transition of a long term substitute and made her feel the "GDS community" welcome. Holly is always there at a moment’s notice to help out in any way possible. At school this year she has taken on the Bengal Dash and Summer Camp director, while still being there and keeping her classroom assistant role first. I would not be able to do my job successfully everyday if I didn't have the help and support of Holly! She is not only a dedicated co-worker, but a wonderful friend as well.”
Parent and past PA President, Miriam Forbis stated the following, “She is a warm, caring and energetic presence in the classroom. Over and above what she does for her students every day, Holly also volunteers as a parent. This year she co-chaired the Bengal Dash which is a massive task. She did a fabulous job and the event was a success raising over $10,000 for our service learning commitment at GDS. I think Holly is a great selection for the award because she truly does go the extra yard-she teaches, she volunteers-she's "all in".”
