GDS 5th Grader Presents at North Carolina State Parks Superintendents Conference

As part of a 5th grade Social Studies class, taught by Mrs. Sarah Rose Mostafa '06, students discussed the lack of diversity of visitors to State and National Parks. Students were invited to write letters of change to organization and leaders to share their thoughts about ways this could be improved.

Nayehl Khan ’26 wrote a letter to North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper including his ideas to increase diversity in our parks. He was later invited to attend the NC State Parks Superintendents annual conference to present his letter and ideas.

Nayehl presented his passionate speech to a crowded room of state park and natural area superintendents who were impressed and moved by his presentation. He also received a special NC Park Ranger patch and a warm invitation to visit all of the NC state parks.
