Step 1 - Application

After the application has been submitted, the following steps may happen in any order:

Step 2 - Teacher and Parent Information Forms

Parent Questionnaire: No one knows your child better than you. Please fill out the following form to help us better meet the needs of you and your child(ren).

Parent Questionnaire

Teacher Information Form
: Please ask the homeroom teacher of your child's current grade to complete a Teacher Information Form for the grade in which he or she is applying. We encourage teachers to mail these forms directly to GDS after the first marking period. Please note, there is one form for students applying to 1st grade and a separate form for students applying to grades 2-4.

Step 3 - Admission Testing

All applicants to grades 1-4 are required to take an age-appropriate admission test. The Admission Office will contact you to schedule this testing.

Step 4 - Report Cards

Report Cards: Parents will need to request a copy of the applicant's current grades and a copy of grades from the two previous years (if applicable). After December 1, complete and sign the Transcipt Release form and deliver it to your child's current school.

Step 5 - School Visits

School Visit:  Each applicant is required to visit our school for a full day. This visit will allow the applicant to experience a typical day of school here at GDS. Students will visit their current grade. A short writing, math, and reading assessment will be completed on the visit day. Applicants will also have the opportunity to meet with one of our Middle School Administrators. Once the application has been submitted, we will contact you to schedule the visit.

Please note: If your child suffers from an allergy, please
complete this form prior to the student visit. Also plan to meet with the School Nurse at drop-off.

Notification Dates

Applications for Lower School are accepted throughout the year if there is space available. Initial decisions for completed applications are made at the first of February, and continue throughout the spring and summer on a rolling basis. Once all parts of an application are completed, you can expect a decision within 2 weeks. Admission decisions are made separately from decisions about need-based financial assistance.

We want this process to be as easy as possible for you and your family. We realize that different families have different needs, and we have designed our admissions process to reflect that knowledge. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make. The faculty and staff at Greensboro Day School look forward to helping you in any way we can.
Greensboro Day School develops the intellectual, ethical, and interpersonal foundations students need to become constructive contributors to the world.
