Step 1 - Application

After the application has been submitted, the following steps may happen in any order:

Step 2 - Parent Questionnaire

No one knows your child like you do! Please complete this parent questionnaire form and send it directly to the Admission Office.

Step 3 - Admission Testing

All Middle School applicants are required to take a grade-appropriate admission test. Testing is scheduled by appointment only. Please call (336) 288-8590 to schedule an appointment.

Step 4 - Teacher Recomendations

Rising 5th and 6th grade applicants will complete only one Teacher Information Form from their homeroom teacher.

If your child is applying to 7th or 8th grade, you will need two teacher recommendations. Please ask your child's current math and English teachers to complete the Teacher Information Form for the grade he or she is applying.

Teachers should mail these forms directly to GDS after the first marking period.  See forms below:

Step 5 - Report Cards

Report Cards: Parents will need to request a copy of the applicant's current grades and a copy of grades from the two previous years (if applicable). After December 1, complete and sign the Transcipt Release form and deliver it to your child's current school.

Step 6 - School Visits

School Visit:  Each applicant is required to visit our school for a full day. This visit will allow the applicant to experience a typical day of school here at GDS. Students will visit their current grade. A short writing, math, and reading assessment will be completed on the visit day. Applicants will also have the opportunity to meet with one of our Middle School Administrators. Once the application has been submitted, we will contact you to schedule the visit.

Please note: If your child suffers from an allergy, please
complete this form prior to the student visit. Also plan to meet with the School Nurse at drop-off.

Notification Dates

Applications for Middle and Upper School are accepted throughout the year if there is space available. Initial decisions for completed applications are made at the first of February, and continue throughout the spring and summer on a rolling basis. Once all parts of an application are completed, you can expect a decision within 2 weeks. Admission decisions are made separately from decisions about need-based financial assistance.

We want this process to be as easy as possible for you and your family. We realize that different families have different needs, and we have designed our admissions process to reflect that knowledge. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make. The faculty and staff at Greensboro Day School look forward to helping you in any way we can.
Greensboro Day School develops the intellectual, ethical, and interpersonal foundations students need to become constructive contributors to the world.
