Alec Whyte ’16 Named North Carolina Schweitzer Fellow

Alec Whyte ’16 was one of two East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine students to have been named to the 2022–23 class of North Carolina Schweitzer Fellows. Schweitzer Fellows develop and implement service projects that address the root causes of health disparities in under-resourced communities; each project is implemented in collaboration with a community-based organization. Alec’s project is to help develop the nation’s first community-funded dental clinic in New Hanover County by advertising the clinic and improving community oral health knowledge. Alec and Schweitzer Fellow Joshua Walker will provide educational instruction on the use of dental products, oral hygiene, and oral health related nutrition information to community members and those that care for them.
