On January 21, we were proud to hold a ceremony dedicating Alumni Gym in honor of Sally Gorrell Kuratnick ’75. Sally, who passed away in April, 2024, was a member of Greensboro Day School’s first graduating class. She was also a member of the School’s first girls basketball team and remained a fervent supporter of the program.
During the dedication, two members of the varsity girls basketball team spoke about how much they appreciated Sally’s friendship and support.
“Sally wasn’t just a supporter of our basketball team; she was one of us,” said Candice Williams ’25. “To her, we were more than just athletes—she often referred to us as “her girls,” and that’s exactly how we felt. She was a constant presence in our lives, always there to lift us up, encourage us, and make sure we had everything we needed to succeed, both on and off the court.”
“Sally wasn’t just a supporter, she was family,” added Samantha Collins ’25. “Her love for this program and for each of us was genuine and unmatched. She made every player feel special and valued, and she reminded us that being part of this team was about more than basketball. It was about relationships, personal growth, and learning to support one another through thick and thin.”
Following the dedication, family, friends, and members of the girls varsity basketball team enjoyed a reception in the Sally Gorrell Kuratnick ’75 Alumni Gym.
