Congratulations to the varsity boys basketball team, who defeated Smith High School 64-50 on December 22 to win the HAECO Invitational championship. This is the program’s 19th title in 35 years participating in the local tournament.
Jaydon Young ’23 was named MVP of the tournament for the second consecutive year. Jaydon is only the second player in tournament history to be named MVP in consecutive years, joining GDS graduate J.P. Moorman ’17, who was named MVP in 2015 and 2016. Seniors Jordan Moody and Joe Bachman were named to the All-tournament team.
The varsity girls team were also strong contenders in the tournament. The team entered the HAECO Invitational as the #3 seed and advanced to the second round in the championship bracket, ultimately falling to the #2 seed Smith High School. The girls team finished the invitational in third place, defeating Dudley High School 61-23. Sophomore Liz Wyrick was named to the All-Tournament team for the Bengals.
