Greensboro Day School was pleased to welcome New York City-based composer, orchestrator, and conductor Jim Papoulis to campus over October 7–9 as composer-in-residence.
During his visit, Mr. Papoulis conducted a songwriting workshop for middle school choral students, and he led the fifth and sixth grade choral students in performing their original composition at the Quarter 1 Concert on Wednesday, October 9, in Sloan Theatre.
Mr. Papoulis also gave a presentation on world music to first graders; led a class on rhythm and harmonization with upper school Chorus, Band, and Strings students; and led a masterclass with Noteworthy choral students and String Essence orchestra students.
His work with the middle school choral students will be included in a PBS documentary about his life and the power of music.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the MAD Society for their support in bringing Mr. Papoulis to campus.
