Cross Country Excels at Championship Meet

The middle school and varsity cross country teams turned in great performances at the Piedmont Triad Athletic Conference (PTAC) Championship Meet at Ivey Redmon. The middle girls team (above) claimed the conference title, and seventh grader Alexandra Tuma was the individual conference meet champion. 

The team had five other runners place in the top 14, contributing to the Bengals’ top finish. Congratulations to Sophia Hammouri ’30 (4th), Charlotte Groat ’31 (5th), Brynley Swinteck ’28 (9th), Ellie Hu ’28 (10th), Zora Zara Yakob ’31 (11th), Angelia Liu ’31, Sadiya Crawford ’29, Ellie Nowlin ’31, and Milena Medeiros ’31 on a great day for GDS!

The middle school boys placed second in the meet. Top finishes from Nathan Tuma ’31 (3rd), Henry Moody ’28 (10th), Rory Carignan ’28 (14th), Pierce Mossman ’30 (15th), Andrew Szott ’28, Ben Bartlett ’28, Noah Gilmer ’28, and Kiaan Jaini ’31 helped lead the Bengals to the runner-up finish.

The varsity girls team finished third. Lucy Eggleston placed second in the meet, and Allie Groat finished 12th.

The varsity boys cross country team placed fifth, with eighth grader Hudson Sharpe finishing ninth in the high school meet.

Congratulations to Lucy Eggleston ’26 and Hudson Sharpe ’28 for being named to the 2023 PTAC All-Conference Team.
