From Bengal to the Big Leagues: Jeff Kirkpatrick ’20 Joins the PGA Tour as Caddie

It’s still sinking in for Jeff Kirkpatrick ’20 that he’s now walking the fairways of the PGA Tour as a caddie for Michael Brennan. The pair’s journey reached a new level when Brennan won the Bank of Utah Championship last month—a victory that secured their place among golf’s elite.

Jeff joined Greensboro Day School as a sophomore and quickly made an impact on the varsity golf team. He still laments losing his senior season to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We were favored to win the state championship that year,” he said.

Although he didn’t compete in college, Jeff practiced frequently with the Wake Forest University golf team, where he met Brennan. When Brennan needed a caddie for the PGA Tour Americas, his teammates recommended Jeff—and the partnership clicked. The duo won three of sixteen starts and finished in the top five eight times, earning a spot on next year’s Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA’s developmental circuit.

A sponsor exemption then gave them a chance to compete in the Bank of Utah Championship on the PGA Tour itself—and they made history. After the win, Brennan credited Jeff’s confidence and preparation: “Jeff believes in me more than anyone, maybe other than my parents. He told me, ‘We’re bypassing Korn Ferry for the PGA Tour.’”

“I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t think it would happen on our first try,” Jeff told GDS. “I study the course, look at stats, figure out where we can miss and where we can’t. We talk over each shot together.”

The duo is now guaranteed PGA Tour status through 2027. Jeff said he’s especially looking forward to competing in events he grew up watching—most of all, the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro next year.
