GDS Community Affirms Commitment to Community Cornerstones

GDS Community Affirms Commitment to Community Cornerstones

On August 29, 2024, Greensboro Day School marked a historic moment with the first-ever Community Cornerstone Pledge Ceremony.

Co-created by students, faculty, staff, and families, the GDS Community Cornerstones of Respect, Kindness, Integrity, and Responsibility embody the shared values that are essential for fostering inclusion and belonging.

Upper School Learning Support Coordinator and Community Cornerstone Award recipient Chanel Green was the featured speaker and spoke about the profound impact the Cornerstones can have on our community. Students in grades 5–12, along with our dedicated faculty and staff, then affirmed their commitment to the pledge (below) by signing their names.

I Pledge To

  • Treat others with kindness and respect
  • Be an upstander: refuse to ignore, laugh, watch, or join in when others are unkind
  • Do my best to help my peers and others feel safe, welcome, and included
  • Refuse to bully, harass, physically harm, or threaten to harm others
  • Refuse to participate in any form of discrimination, hate, or negative bias using actions, words, gestures, symbols, or slurs
  • Report those who violate any of the actions above
  • Take responsibility for my actions and not retaliate against anyone who reports my actions
  • Honor this pledge whether in person, off campus, or online
