GDS Community Members Share Internship Insights

On October 27, seniors gathered in the Kaplan Lobby for a special Senior Internship Panel, where members of the GDS community shared insights about their career journeys and the value of internship experiences.

The panel featured Dr. Matthew Wakefield, general surgeon and parent of Will Wakefield ’25; Cat Vaughan ’19, law student at Elon University; Melinda Graham, former GDS math teacher and Provisions Program Manager at The Family Room, a local nonprofit supporting foster care families; and Beth Boulton ’85, owner of Boulton Creative, a Greensboro-based strategic marketing company.

Panelists discussed how internships and early career experiences helped shape their professional paths, offering advice on how students can make the most of upcoming opportunities.

The Senior Internship is a longstanding GDS tradition that connects graduating seniors with professionals in a wide variety of career fields for a four-week internship, allowing seniors to explore a particular interest or career possibility before entering college.
