Introducing Greensboro Day School’s Next Lower School Director

We are excited to announce that Michelle Eriksen has been named as Greensboro Day School’s next Lower School Director, beginning July 15, 2026. Michelle is currently the Head of Lower School & Deputy Head of School for ACS International School Hillingdon in London, England, where she has spent 29 years serving students and families as the Head of Lower School. 

Michelle serves families representing more than 50 nationalities, bringing a truly global perspective to her work. Her experience supporting a neurodiverse student body, deep commitment to student success, and passion for experiential learning will build on the strengths of our Lower School while opening the door to new opportunities. At ACS, Michelle enriched the lower school program by introducing “forest school” days into the curriculum, deepening students’ connection to the natural world and hands-on learning, and she has led an inquiry-based approach to learning across disciplines where students investigate, ask questions, and solve problems in real-world contexts.

Michelle's colleagues and supervisor describe her as a compassionate leader, champion of children, academic innovator, and someone who deeply values collaborating with teachers and families. One of Michelle’s favorite places to be when on the job is in the classroom. Don’t be surprised to find her reading to students or joining them on the classroom floor cheering them on while they learn and play.

A native of Minnesota, Michelle earned her B.A. in education from the University of Oregon and began her teaching career in elementary classrooms in Seattle, Washington. She and her husband, Stian, who is from Norway, later made their home in London, where Michelle earned her M.A. in education from Oxford Brookes University and began her educational leadership career at ACS Hillingdon. Together, they have two adult children who live in the United States, and they are looking forward to being closer to family.
