We are pleased to announce that our graduation speaker will be Georges Saab ’85, Senior Vice President of Java at Oracle. Georges leads the development of the Java programming language, which he helped pioneer at Sun Microsystems in the mid-1990s. Java has been used for a vast range of applications, from Minecraft to powering most transactional internet sites to controlling the NASA Mars Rover Spirit. For many high schoolers, it is best known as the language of choice for the College Board’s AP Computer Science A exam. Georges’ group is located in over 20 countries and includes the foremost experts in computer language design, security, networking, concurrency, and graphics.
A native of Greensboro and member of the GDS class of 1985, Georges attended Duke University and the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK. Georges lives in Palo Alto, California, with his wife Johanna, son Alex (13), and daughter Elina (18).
