Congratulations to the JV Bengal Bots middle school robotics team, whose performance at the First Lego League Challenge Qualifier in Hillsborough on November 16 earned them a spot in the State Competition on January 11.
These students are all new to a robotics team and really stepped up to the challenge of competition. In addition to improving in each of their three rounds, the team received third place in the Innovation Project, which was focused on the red tide, a significant threat to manatees in Florida.
The Innovation Project requires students to validate their design with professionals working in STEM. Our students consulted with GDS alumna Caroline Gorga ’05, who is the Ecosystem Assessment and Restoration Section Leader for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute. We are grateful to Ms. Gorga for sharing her time and for providing students with feedback on how to improve their project.
