McLendon Speaker Jennifer Wallace Shares Tips for Managing Achievement Pressure

On November 18, 2024, award-winning journalist and bestselling author Jennifer Wallace joined the GDS community virtually as the second speaker in our 2024–25 McLendon Speaker Series.

In a virtual conversation moderated by the GDS counselors, Ms. Wallace described the achievement pressure that often affects students in high-performing schools and described how having a sense of purpose can help students navigate those pressures. Ms. Wallace also previewed some of the themes of her upcoming book by describing how a deep sense of mattering fosters psychological resources, such as self-worth and a sense of belonging, that act as a critical buffer from anxiety and achievement pressure.
