On September 3, ninth and tenth graders participated in an off-campus public purpose project by volunteering with Out of the Garden Project, which provides nutritious food to children and families in need.
Students worked in groups to construct boxes, measure out portions of beans, rice, and granola, and add boxed products and fresh produce such as onions and apples that families can use to create meals. The Out of the Garden Project organizers expected to complete about 7,000 meals, and we greatly exceeded that goal by packing more than 2,040 boxes of food, totaling more than 21,000 meals!
President and Executive Director Beth Crise and Board Chair Dr. Akir Kahn shared that the work that GDS students completed will set the organization up for success for the next month and a half.
