Students and School Leaders Explore AI’s Impact and Implications

GDS students and school leaders recently attended two national conferences examining how artificial intelligence is shaping society, education, and future career paths.

Upper school students Sameera ’29 and Liza ’28 participated in From Classrooms to Careers: How AI Is Shaping Our Paths, a national student conference in Houston hosted by the Close Up Foundation. Sameera and Liza joined more than 200 students from schools across the country in exploring policy questions related to emerging AI technologies. Through structured discussions and collaborative exercises, participants developed deliberation skills focused on navigating complex issues and building consensus.

Several members of the school’s leadership team—Dean of Campus Life Roderick Fludd, Director of Educational Technology Chrissy Olson ’85, Assistant Head of School for Strategic Advancement Amanda Carter, and Associate Head of School for People & Program Annie Glosky—attended a concurrent AI Symposium hosted by the National Association of Independent Schools. The symposium focused on practical approaches to using AI in school settings and encouraged participants to consider both immediate applications and long-term strategy for AI in education.
