Varsity Boys Basketball Claims State Title!

Congratulations to the varsity boys basketball team, who concluded an outstanding (30-5) season on February 25 by capturing the NCISAA 3A state championship! The Bengals earned a hard-fought 58-56 victory over top-seed Concord Academy to claim the title. Click here to read the News & Record coverage of the game.

This win marks the 12th state championship in the basketball program’s history—a school record shared with the varsity girls soccer team. This year’s team is only the third in program history to complete the basketball “trifecta” of winning the HAECO Invitational, the PTAC Conference Championship, and the NCISAA 3A State Championship.

“I could not be more proud of this team,” said Head Coach Freddy Johnson. “There were some ups and downs this season, but this group came together to finish the season on a strong note. While Jaydon Young was our leader throughout the season, there were so many other guys who stepped up when needed to make game-winning plays. It was a total team effort, and this group worked hard. I am so happy for them to bring home the state championship. We have six seniors, three who are four-year varsity players, and it’s a joy to see them go out on top!”
