We Love Learning: Faculty Engage in Professional Development Day

As lifelong learners, the Greensboro Day School faculty and staff spent the morning of February 13 engaged in the We Love Learning Professional Development Day, featuring guest speakers as well as the experts in our own GDS community.

Our keynote speaker was Dr. Mark Lewis, Director of Psychotherapy and the Psychiatry Residency Program at Cone Health, who led a session designed to demystify the psychoeducational evaluation process. Teachers explored how learning disabilities are identified and diagnosed; reviewed common learning profiles, including neurodivergent learners; and examined the types of accommodations that may be recommended for students.

We also welcomed Barri Maxwell, a pediatric occupational therapist, whose session highlighted ways OT can help students build organization, initiate and complete tasks, strengthen motor planning, and engage more fully in school life.

In addition to our guest speakers, the majority of sessions were designed and led by GDS faculty. Many sessions intentionally brought together colleagues from different divisions and disciplines, creating space for collaboration and fresh perspectives. Sample topics included Collaborative Learning Strategies to Engage Students, Bringing Learning to Life with Virtual Reality, Grading and Feedback Strategies to Power Student Achievement, and Facilitating Daring and Dynamic Discussions.

This was a great day of professional growth and learning for our faculty and staff. Thanks to Annie Glosky, Assistant Head of School for People & Program, for coordinating this event and to all our presenters for sharing their time and expertise.
